Home Cures for Lice

There are many different lice cures that can be purchased over-the-counter, on-line or via a prescription from your doctor. Alternatively, there are lice cures that you can attempt to make yourself at home ('home remedies') using products that you may already have lying around. There are lice cures for humans (to combat head, body and pubic lice) and separate products for your pets. Lice cures for your pets are usually animal-specific, so you should not use cat products on dogs or dog products on cats. Some lice cures are not suitable for kittens or puppies, so if you are unsure it would be best to consult your veterinarian.

Head Lice Cures
The majority of people search for cures for head lice. Head lice are more commonly found on children between the ages of 3 and 12 years old, but are able to infest any head no matter what the person's age. Some head lice cures are not to be used on babies or those who are pregnant or breast-feeding, so if you fall into that bracket your doctor will be able to confirm which of the treatments available would be best. You can find lice cures in the form of sprays, shampoos, creams, lotions and combs and each of these products will usually come with a set of directions on how to apply them and how regularly. For the best results, follow the directions provided.

Natural Cures for Lice
There are different strength lice cures and the most appropriate will be determined by the severity of the infestation. You have lice cures that are made from natural ingredients (such as Full Mark's solution and Dimethicone) and also those that are made with insecticides and other chemicals. There are water-based insecticides and alcohol insecticides (which can contain Permethrin, Malathion or Phenothrin). When using any harsh/strong chemicals on the human body, it is worth making yourself aware of the contents and any potential risks. If an insecticide is needed then the water-based varieties are usually recommended for those who have eczema or asthma.

cures for lice

One of the quickest cures for lice is to start locating them and extracting them with a detection/nit comb. Also known as bug busting or wet combing, a nit comb is specially designed with close packed fine-teeth that help draw lice and nits out of the hair. The hair should be washed and damp dried first, then a generous amount of conditioner added to make the hair slippery. Brush out any tangles of knots with an ordinary brush and then use the detection comb. Go over the whole head in sections, starting at the scalp and drawing out the whole length of the hair and then clean the comb between strokes to remove any lice/nits/eggs. Repeat the process all over, spending 20 minutes per head. This may be a good starting point before any of the other treatments are applied.

If you visit other pages on this website, we reiterate a common theme and that is that prevention is just as important (if not more) as cures or treatment. If you can do your upmost to avoid lice in the first place, you can prevent discomfort, irritation, embarrassment and a lot of time and effort (let alone spending money out on treatments and cures). Please navigate your way round the site to learn more about lice and ways to avoid them infesting you and your family. There will also be adverts that take you to various lice cures - some of which may be a good idea to store in your cupboard should an outbreak occur. Cures should be used at the earliest opportunity should an infestation be confirmed. It is also responsible to ensure that the parasites are not passed on to others and that friends and family are made aware if they may have been exposed to any type of infestation.

Thousands of people search to find out about different types of parasites and where to find cures for them. Fortunately there are so many products available on line, you should be able to find what you want without too much of a problem. We hope that you have found this article a useful guide and that any questions you may have had have been answered. You will find that this website is a great resource, whether you are looking to learn more, purchase lice-related products or just seek some quiet information. Men, women and children are all affected by these parasites and we hope you have located the treatment you may need, be it a comb, lotion, cream, medication or shampoo. Treatments and remedies should be sought after quickly and if you have crabs you should seek medical advice so they cannot be spread or infect others.
