Life cycle of the head louse
Lice have a 3 stage life cycle - the egg, the nymph and the adult. The life cycle of a head louse starts when the female adult lay the eggs (also known as nits lice) which stick to the hair of the host for approximately ten days. The eggs hatch into nymphs (which looks like small adults with six legs). The nymphs take around another ten days to grow and mature into adults. The adults can be up to 3 mm in length, have six legs, range in colour (from a translucent greyish white, to brown and to black) and the females can lay up to 150 eggs! When getting rid of lice, you must target every stage!
